Generative tensions: Undergraduates' experience of Geography in US universities

چکیده

We reflect on Geography in the US university by focusing paths taken undergraduates into and beyond our classrooms. Those reveal aspects of that appear unique to this national context, include structural barriers students' entry Geography, from their highly uneven exposure school unfamiliarity with it as a degree. Yet many students still manage find field, troubling exception Black Indigenous students. also highlight paradox whereby graduates ‘invisible’ field are high demand within government industry, even training encourages them simultaneously critique tight coupling those structures power. suggest these distinctive constitutive attributes universities shape geographies they take out world.
